Keratoconus
Keratoconus is a progressive eye condition in which the cornea becomes thin and bulges outward into a cone shape, leading to distorted and blurred vision. It often begins in the teenage years or early adulthood and may worsen over time if untreated.
Symptoms
- Blurred or distorted vision
- Increased sensitivity to light
- Frequent changes in glasses number
- Double or ghost vision
- Difficulty in night vision
Causes
- Weakening and thinning of the cornea
- Genetic factors (family history)
- Excessive eye rubbing
- Long-term eye allergies
Diagnosis
At Dr. Ankur Gupta Eye & Vision Centre, Kota, advanced corneal mapping (topography) and detailed eye examinations help in early and accurate detection of keratoconus.
Treatment Options
- Glasses or Contact Lenses: Effective in early stages
- Specialized RGP Lenses: Provide better vision correction
- Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking (CXL): Helps stop progression
- Intacs (Corneal Implants): Improve corneal shape
- Corneal Transplant: Required in advanced cases
Why Early Treatment is Important
